On August 19, Juniper Village at Aurora was thrilled to host a book signing for our own, Graham Witherspoon. Graham's lovely wife, Pat, is a resident of Juniper Village. Shortly after Pat was diagnosed with Alzheimer's, Graham began researching Alzheimer's and it's impact on Pat. This was his way to rise above this devastating disease and teach others. The result is his book titled "The Taking Disease".
"The Taking Disease" has truly been a labor of love. Graham wrote and illustrated the book by hand - no electronic crutches for him! After he shared the book with the leadership team at Juniper, a decision was made to publish the manuscript. Graham asked that all proceeds from the publication benefit the Alzheimer's Association. The day for the book signing finally dawned . . . . and what a turn out it was! Many dignitaries attended, inclduing the Fire Chief for the City of Aurora, a state senator, chair of the Joint Budget Committee for Colorado, and members of many organizations including Kiwanis Club, Aurora Book Review Club, and the Poetry Society of Colorado.
Ultimately Graham personally signed nearly 100 copies. Over $1000 was raised for the Alzheimer's Association Memory Walk. And best of all we were able to honor Graham - inspired writer and artist, intrepid mountain climber, and veteran "old sailor". Congratulations friend and thank you for allowing us to care for your beautiful Pat. Juniper Village at Aurora . . . . nurturing the spirit of life in each individual we touch.
